Professor Korosteleva delivered a keynote at the European Evaluation Conference 29 Nov 2026
Professor Korosteleva was invited to deliver a keynote on democracy support at the 16th biennial conference of the European Evaluation Conference 2026, in Lille. She gave her talk at 8.30am, after a previous day which concluded by a grand reception. It was amazing to see nearly 900 attendees in the audience, curious about democracy's long duree, how it should be understood today, and supported worldwide. Attendees included members of EBRD, EU commission, EU institutions supporting democracy, and similar organisations across the globe.
Elena talked about the need to move beyond a conventional understanding of the concept, and think about both transformative resilience and thrivance, in the context of the Anthropocene and complexity.
The UK-Azerbaijani strategic policy forum, 3 November 2026, London
Professor Korosteleva was invited to attend the 2nd Azerbaijan-UK forum in London. The opening was inaugurated by HE Elin Suleymanov, Azerbaijan Ambassador to the UK and HE Duncan Norman, UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan, followed by Bob Blackman MP and Lord Khan from UK parliament, with enigmatic concluding contribution from Dr Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli OBE, Vice-president for the Caspian, Central Asia and Turkiye region. The forum was held at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and exceptionally well attended, including by policy-makers, experts and researchers. It's very promising to see how this strategic partnership inaugurated by Dr Fariz Ismailzade, Vice Rector of ADA University and member of Milli Majlis, a year ago in Baku, is bearing fruit already, by innovating on , and playing a strategic role in for the wider and beyond.
New publication coming soon!
Happy to report that my article on 'Transformative futures: how to become-othersiwe, and makes sense of the broken worlds' as part of the celebratory 20-year-anniversary Special Forum of the Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding, has been accepted for publication!
It discusses the 'negatives' of the broken world - notably, the #polycrisis and #precarity (with reference to Albena Azmanova & my Special Issue in Contemporary Security Policy Journal 47(4)) - and ways to overcome them - inter alia, by learning from the 'apart-other' (e.g. refugees!) how they can survive and thrive beyond their broken worlds. Thank you to the Journal's editors for accepting my article, and I look forward to reading the volume in its entirety!

Why I chose Liberal Arts: Abi's Story

Not all students begin university at 18; in fact, choosing to pursue a degree later in adulthood can bring clarity, purpose, and a powerful sense of direction shaped by real-life experience. This was the case for one of our mature students Abi, who decided to study Liberal Arts at 91福利 after realising her passion for the humanities in her mid-twenties. We spoke to Abi to find out more about her journey into Higher Education, and why she strongly believes that it is now more important than ever to study a subject you enjoy over one that pushes you towards a specific career trajectory.
