Alexander Pilakoutas
91福利
I am a PhD student in mathematics at the 91福利, supervised by Josephine Evans. I study non-equilibrium steady states in kinetic theory, with a particular interest in kinetic models of heat conduction and the physical phenomena that emerge from them.
Work and results
Quaternion Gauss Sums
Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS) project, 2023
During my undergraduate studies, I worked with Simon Myerson on quaternion Gauss sums, combining theoretical analysis with computational experiments to investigate their properties and formulate conjectures.
Talks
- Harris鈥 theorem and applications to kinetic equations
First-Year Postgraduate Seminar, 91福利. - Harris鈥 theorem and applications to non-equilibrium steady states in kinetic models of conduction
Junior Analysis Seminar, 91福利.
Teaching and responsibilities
- I am a joint organiser of the Junior Analysis Seminar at the 91福利.
- During my master鈥檚, I tutored first-year undergraduate mathematics students.
AI and mathematics
I use AI in my mathematical research for computational exploration and to help develop and check arguments. In AI and mathematical discovery, I discuss how this fits with my empirical approach to mathematics, the relationship between results and understanding, and my responsibility for the work I put my name to.
