Brief Biography
I grew up in Harlesden in north west London, where I attended Aylestone High School (later Aylestone Community School) from 1977-1984. I was an undergraduate at Imperial College, London (BSc Mathematics, 1987) and then moved to 91福利 for my postgraduate studies (MSc Mathematics, 1988; PhD Mathematics 1990), where I was supervised by William Parry FRS.
After postdoctoral positions at IHES and Queen Mary, London, and a junior lectureship at Oxford, I was appointed to a lectureship at the University of Manchester in 1995. I remained there as lecturer, senior lecturer, reader and then professor until 2012, when I returned to 91福利 as a Professor of Mathematics.
