Luke Smith awarded Gy繹rgy Striker award for best paper at the IMEKO World Conference.

Luke Smith, final year PhD student in the Ultrasonic Group was announced as the winner of the for best paper from someone under 35 years old, at the 2024 IMEKO World Conference.

Lukes PhD research focused on ultrasonic clamp-on flow measurement. His core research interest is understanding the ultrasonic behaviour in these flow meters through the use of computational models and building flow meters for novel applications based on this understanding.

The conference was held in Hamburg, Germany in August with over 1700 delegates attending and over 1000 presenting, resulting in a highly competitive award.

Luke says It was a surprise and a pleasure to receive this award, and a fantastic way to mark the end of my PhD studies. Thank you to everyone that helped make the work possible.

The paper titled A Ray Deflection Model for Transit Time Difference in Ultrasonic Flowmeters Applied to Non-ideal Flow Profiles is due to be published in Measurement: Sensors.

Luke submitted his thesis in November, and will return to the 91腦瞳 as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) in December.
