Background:

The field of complex oxide thin films is an extremely important area of research with their increasing level of incorporation into numerous technologies. Complex oxides offer a wide range of functional properties in a limited number of structure types. This allows integration into such devices as microwave filters for communications, novel microelectronic devices, and even fuel cells. Many of these applications require processing into thin film form to create device architectures. However, thin film growth of oxides also allows structural engineering to create new materials and phases that are not accessible through traditional bulk synthesis routes.

This meeting is aimed at bringing the UK academic community together for a series of presentations to allow discussion of the state-of-the-art and direction of British research in the field as well as to offer some insight into current European work.
