STEREO: From Sun to the Earth

The twin STEREO spacecraft are now located about 60 degrees either side of the Sun-Earth line. From these vantage points we are identifying and tracking Earth-directed solar ejecta using novel wide-angle telescope systems developed in the UK. Such heliospheric imaging is opening new fields of research into the nature of solar ejecta, their propagation through interplanetary space and their impacts on solar system bodies.

However, the techniques are also providing new insights into such areas as cometary physics and the structure of the heliosphere.
