The Royal Society invites applications for its research professorships. These provide long-term support to scientists and enables them to be relieved from teaching and administration duties in order to focus on research. Two types of professorships are available:
•five royal society professorships supporting research in any of the natural and applied sciences, including medical science, engineering and interdisciplinary research;
•one EP Abraham research professorship supporting research specifically in biological and medical sciences.
Applicants may be of any nationality and applications from scientists currently residing outside the UK are particularly welcomed. Awards must be held at a UK university or non-profit research institute.
Professorships are tenable for up to 10 years and they provide salary costs of £82,000 per year, research expenses of up to £100,000 a year, and start-up costs of up to £200,000 for the first year and £100,000 for the second year. Royal society professorships are funded at 80 per cent of full economic cost and EP Abraham professorship is funded at 100 per cent of full economic cost.
