The Science and Technology Facilities Council invites applications for the Ernest Rutherford fellowships. These enable early-career researchers from the UK and overseas to establish an independent research programme in the fields of astronomy, solar and planetary science, particle physics, particle astrophysics, cosmology and nuclear physics.
Applicants may be of any nationality. They must have a PhD and at least five years research experience from the start of the programme leading to the award of the PhD, and a minimum of two years’ postdoctoral experience. Applicants must not yet hold a permanent academic position. Fellowships may be held at any eligible UK research organisation. Outstanding candidates returning from a career break or from working outside academic research may apply for a returner fellowship.
Funding is provided at 80 per cent full economic cost. Fellowships are tenable for five years and provide funds to cover salaries, travel for collaborative visits and fieldwork, attendance at one conference workshop or symposium, and minor equipment and consumables. Up to 12 fellowships are available per year.
