The UK Space Agency invites proposals for its statements of interest to outline a new project call. This supports ad hoc ideas for new space science and exploration projects. Assessment criteria for projects include:
鈥cience quality of the mission – priority is given to world leading science projects, likely to bring about a seminal change in knowledge;
鈥cience value to the UK – world leading projects with UK role providing key access are prioritised and they must fit the Science and Technology Facilities Council strategy;
鈥conomic impact and industrial partnerships or roles – priority is given to UK in lead positions, such a potential to win key contracts and develop novel designs or have a significant industrial role;
鈥ocietal impact – projects should show strong evidence of broader societal benefits;
鈥imeliness – the mission should already have been formally selected for launch by a space agency or tied to an astronomical event;
鈥alue for money – projects should have high impact potential in relation to the expected total cost, and high confidence in cost and return;
鈥isk – projects should have a low programmatic, reputational, scientific and technical risk with potentially high reward.
