The Science and Technology Facilities Council, under its projects peer review panel, invites statements of interest for funding for large projects. This supports projects that have a significant scientific priority in particle physics, nuclear physics, astronomy or particle astrophysics. The activities of projects may include participation in new experiments or missions, and development of new instruments or upgrades to existing detectors.
Applicants must be employed as academic members of staff, lecturers or equivalent, or hold a fellowship. In exceptional cases, senior post-doctoral research assistants of sufficient experience and qualification may also be eligible. They must be either resident in the UK or employed by an overseas research organisation approved by the STFC as eligible to apply. If the applicant is not employed by the organisation submitting the proposal, they must have have written arrangement from the organisation confirming that they may carry out research there. Post-doctoral research assistants located at the same organisation as the PI, may be identified as co-applicants, and must be working on the grant for at least 50 per cent of their contracted hours.
