The British Council, under the Newton Fund, invites applications for its researcher links workshop grants UK-Russia. This supports the organisation of workshops between the UK and Russia in the natural sciences and applied sciences, excluding clinical research. The workshops aim to bring together early-career researchers from the UK and Russia to make international connections that can improve the quality of their research. Applications are made on a bilateral basis by senior researchers, but once awarded, grants are available for early-career researchers. The call has two main objectives:

•establishing new research links or significantly develop existing links, with the potential for longer term sustainability;

•contributing to capacity building of early-career researchers.

The proposal must be a joint application, with one PI based at a UK institution and one in Russian institution. Both PIs must be leading or established researchers. Only one application may be submitted per principal applicant, but there is no limit to the number of applications submitted per institution. Non-profit HEIs or publicly funded research organisations may be lead institutions or participants. Russia-based organisations affiliated with HEIs in UK or other countries may apply as the lead institution in Russia if other HEIs or research organisations are involved as associated partners in-country. For-profit organisations and non-profit organisations may participate but are not usually eligible for funding. UK institutions may partner with institutions affiliated with other UK institutions to deliver workshops if the workshop includes other HEIs or research organisations in Russia. Workshops must be held between 1 June and 31 December 2019.

Nine awards, worth up to £51,940 each, are available.
