The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Innovate UK and the Advanced Propulsion Centre, under the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and on behalf of the Faraday Challenge Research Institute, invite expressions of interest for their Faraday Challenge – batteries for Britain call. This supports fast start research projects to build on existing UK capabilities in novel battery technologies research, aiming to make the UK the go to place for the research, development, manufacture and production of novel battery technologies for both the automotive and the wider relevant sectors. Funding is expected to support collaborative and scoping research projects and to lead in breakthroughs in four challenge areas, establishing the UK as the world leader for leading battery research, making the UK industry more competitive, attracting researchers and industry to the UK. One project will be funded in each of the following challenge areas: •countering battery degradation; •developing solid state batteries with lithium and sodium metal anodes; •building distinctive multi-scale modelling capabilities; •delivering a circular economy in batteries and recycling. |
