How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council invites applications for its ISIS facility development studentships. These offer co-funded PhD studentships which contain an element of facility development, for example development of equipment, software or experimental processes. Studentship projects can be within any of the science areas studied by neutron scattering or muon spectroscopy at ISIS, but they must focus on facility-development or the utilisation of facilities previously developed under this call alongside a strong science case. This may include technique, software or sample environment development which is of wider use within the facility beyond the immediate PhD student project. Joint applications to ISIS and Diamond are particularly welcomed.

Any academic belonging to a UK university with the authorisation to supervise PhD students may apply. An ISIS staff scientist must be a co-applicant and co-supervisor. The student must spend at least one year of their time at ISIS, or at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory for joint ISIS-Diamond studentships.

ISIS will provide up to 50 per cent funding for each studentship including any fees required by the host university. All applicants must provide evidence with their application that they have already secured a 50 per cent contribution of project costs. In addition, up to £2,000 per year per student for travel and consumables will be available. The studentships last for three to four years.

EOI

The Science and Technology Facilities Council, under its projects peer review panel, invites statements of interest for funding for large projects. This supports projects that have a significant scientific priority in particle physics, nuclear physics, astronomy or particle astrophysics. The activities of projects may include participation in new experiments or missions, and development of new instruments or upgrades to existing detectors.

Applicants must be employed as academic members of staff, lecturers or equivalent, or hold a fellowship. In exceptional cases, senior post-doctoral research assistants of sufficient experience and qualification may also be eligible. They must be either resident in the UK or employed by an overseas research organisation approved by the STFC as eligible to apply. If the applicant is not employed by the organisation submitting the proposal, they must have have written arrangement from the organisation confirming that they may carry out research there. Post-doctoral research assistants located at the same organisation as the PI, may be identified as co-applicants, and must be working on the grant for at least 50 per cent of their contracted hours.
