Peter Wahl - What we can learn from Scanning Tunneling Microscopy about topological protectionP5.23The rise of topology in condensed matter physics has generated strong interest in materials which exhibit band inversions and topologically non-trivial properties, however it has often proven difficult to pin down experimental "smoking-gun" evidence for topological protection. Based on a few examples, I will show what we can learn from atomic scale characterization of the electronic states by low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy about the properties of these materials |
