How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

The Royal Society and the National Natural Science Foundation of China invite applications for the cost-share programme of their international exchanges scheme. This stimulates new collaborations within the natural sciences between scientists in the UK and China. Eligible research subjects include the following: physics; chemistry; mathematics; computer science; engineering; agricultural, biological and medical research; the scientific aspects of archaeology, geography and experimental psychology.

Additional fellowships are also available through the Newton Fund, with the aim of developing long-term sustainable growth and welfare of partner countries through building research and innovation capacity.

The UK applicant must apply to the Royal Society and the Chinese applicant must apply to NSFC. Both applicants must have completed a PhD and must hold a permanent or fixed term contract in an eligible organisation. Both applicants must be based in their respective countries or institutions at the time of the application.

The Royal Society provides up to £12,000 for the UK team’s airfare to China and the Chinese team’s subsistence whilst in the UK. Up to £2,000 of this amount may be spent on research expenses and consumables. An additional £12,000 equivalent is available from NSFC towards the Chinese team’s airfare to the UK and the UK team’s subsistence whilst in China. Awards are available for a fixed period of two years.

The Royal Society, in collaboration with Rolls-Royce, invites applications for its industry fellowships. These enable academic scientists to work on collaborative projects with industry, or individuals employed in industry to work on collaborative projects with university departments or non-profit research organisations. The aim is to enhance knowledge transfer in science and technology between those in industry and those in academia in the UK. The scheme covers all subjects within the life and physical sciences, including engineering but excluding clinical medicine.

Applicants must have a PhD or be of equivalent standing in their profession, and hold a permanent post in a university, non-profit research organisation or industry in the UK. The host organisation must be a UK university or a not-for-profit research organisation, or an industry partner. Applications involving spin-offs or small companies are encouraged.

Fellowships support a period of up to two years and cover fellows’ basic salary during the secondment as well as research expenses of up to £2,000 per year.

Visiting Professorships

Awarded to UK institutions that wish to invite an eminent researcher from overseas to enhance the knowledge and skills of academic staff or the student body within the host institution. The scheme covers maintenance, travel expenses and research costs. Visiting Professorships last for between three and twelve months.

The objective of these awards is to enable distinguished academics based overseas to spend between three and twelve months inclusive at a UK university, primarily in order to enhance the skills of academic staff or the student body within the host institution. It is recognised that Visiting Professors may also wish to use the opportunity to further their own academic interests. The over-riding criteria for selection are first the academic standing and achievements of the visitor in terms of research and teaching, and secondly the ability of the receiving institution to benefit from the imported skills and expertise. Priority will be given to new or recent collaborative ventures.
