How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Stochastic multi-scale modelling: Filopodia and intra-cellular Calcium
P5.23

Speaker: Ulrich Dobramysl (Mathematical Institute, Oxford )

Ulrich will present his work on stochastic multi-scale models for diffusion and their applications in biological systems. In the first section of his talk, he will focus on filopodia, cytoplasmic projections that are important to environmental sensing and chemotaxis, cell motility, establishment of mechanical cell connections during wound healing, neural growth, etc. He will discuss the role of stochastic vs deterministic models for diffusion and the influence of dimensionality on the growth and lifetime for filopodia in these models. In the second part of his talk, he will discuss intra-cellular calcium ion dynamics. The controlled release of calcium into the cytoplasm via IP_3 receptor channels is an important component of signaling pathways in many cell types. They employ a multi-scale on-lattice and Brownian dynamics algorithm coupled with a stochastic channel gating model to simulate calcium puffs.
