How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

A1.01 (Zeeman Building)

This interactive, interdisciplinary workshop will tell the story of how a Non-Euclidean Geometry was created in the 19th century, "out of nothing." This breakthrough had huge influence in many areas of knowledge, from Philosophy, to the Arts, to the Physical Sciences.

Using interactive activities, we will get familiar with new ways of seeing distance and shapes.

We will explore in more detail how the new Geometry influenced work in theArts, literature and fiction, and how it is the basis of some fundamental discoveries in Physics, such asRelativity.

There will be a chance to engage, in an informal way, with some abstract mathematical concepts.

The workshop will end with a panel discussion about how we communicate Science to non-experts.

The British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust invite applications for their senior research fellowships. These enable established scholars, needing relief from teaching and administration, to have the time to bring to completion a significant piece of research, through sustained period of leave for one year. Any field of study in the humanities and social sciences is supported.

Applicants may be of any age or current status, such as professors or lecturers. Successful candidates are expected to be able to disseminate the results of their research through publications and through feeding into their future academic career.

A total of eight awards are expected to be available.

This supports proposals offering training in a variety of forms that fall within priority areas of NERC science remit. The total budget for this scheme is £1 million per year. Most training initiatives will require £1,000 to £3,000 per student and the maximum cost of the training initiative will be no more than £60,000 or £100,000 with additional justification.
