The UK Space Agency, under the national space technology programme, invites proposals for its fast tracks grants. These support projects that aim to develop the capability of the UK space sector. Proposals are sought for space technology research and development projects in areas including technology proof of concept, technology developments, establishing new industrial research collaborations, market studies, or studies into spin in or out of technologies for space. Projects should introduce or develop technologies that offer disruptive or enabling potential to existing concepts, for example to improve performance, or improve system parameters such as cost, mass and resource requirements. Preference will be given to proposals of the highest technical quality that accelerate the development of scientific or commercial technologies for space.

Industry-industry and industry-academia collaborations will be given preference. A UK institution must lead the consortium. Non-UK entities may participate as partners.

Grants are worth up to 拢200,000 for up to one year.

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf invites proposals for beamtime at their centre for high-power radiation sources ELBE. The centre hosts different radiation sources which enable user groups to carry out experiments. The following radiation sources are available:

鈥�free-electron laser – FELBE;

鈥�bremsstrahlung – 纬ELBE;

鈥�direct electron beam – ELBE;

鈥�neutron time-of-flight system – nELBE;

鈥�positron source – pELBE;

鈥�superradiant THz source – TELBE.

It is strongly recommend to discuss the feasibility of planned experiments with the local experts prior to the submission of a proposal.

Access is free of charge for all non-proprietary research.

Our Data Study Groups are intensive five day 鈥渃ollaborative hackathons鈥�, which bring together researchers, data practitioners, and industry representatives to work together on data science challenges posed by partner organisations. Working together in multi-disciplinary teams, the aim is to encourage collaboration while working on real-world problems and datasets. The challenges for this event are:

鈥� Imperial College London Statistics - Developing data science tools for improving enterprise cyber-security
鈥� MedImmune - Machine learning for enhanced understanding in cell culture bioprocess development
鈥� National Cyber Security Centre - Capturing the function of websites
鈥� NATS UK Air Traffic Services Provider - Next-generation trajectory prediction for air traffic control
鈥� PlayerLens - Player Pathways: Understanding career paths that deliver success for professional football players and clubs

The application form asks for details of your technical experience and experience working in collaborative groups. We have a wide definition of both so please be creative in your answers. If you think you can help our partners to answer these important questions, we want to hear from you!

The Institute will cover travel expenses (up to 拢200 for international delegates) and accommodation, and provide food and drink throughout the week. Social activities will also be arranged.
