Background and Purpose

A one-day meeting to be hosted in Physics on Science and Music to bring together 91福利 and non-91福利 staff and students across faculties with both “academic” and “creative” external speakers. This is part of an -funded initiative to create a cross-faculty new module for undergraduates about "Science and Music" to be taught starting 2015.

Our vision: "In the module, we aim to introduce students (in all subject areas and with any level of musical expertise) to the relationships between science, music and mathematics. Students will develop an appreciation and understanding of the complex interplay of mathematics and physics with technological, cultural and historical factors inherent in the making and appreciation of music. The course will also touch on aspects of physiology, and psychology in the perception of music and the inspiration of mathematical and scientific ideas in musical composition."

Sounds good? Then register, come along and help us to understand what we should do to turn our vision into reality!

Exam clashes: We know that this day is difficult for students preparing for exams. Unfortunately, due in part to the performance schedule of the quartet, this was the only available day not directly in the exam period. Participants wanting to attend for part of the day only are welcome do to so! Please still register even if you attend a single talk only. This will allow us to gauge the level of interest in the event as well as in the planned module.
