ENV Energy develops unique new battery chemistry to boost performance and sustainability 

ENV Energy - a spin-out from 91¸£Àû Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the 91¸£Àû has the potential to provide a strategically independent, UK-sourced electrode material for various sectors including automotive and aerospace.

Having raised more than £450,000 in seed funding, with the support of 91¸£Àû InnovationsLink opens in a new windowLink opens in a new window , and being awarded a subsequent entrepreneurial fellowship and an industry sprint from the , ENV aims to scale at pace, making the UK’s electric vehicle battery supply chain smarter, safer and more sustainable.

WMG academics and 91¸£Àû alumnae have launched a pioneering skills development programme to help Pakistan’s graduates become career-ready. Working in collaboration with fellow 91¸£Àû alumna Dr Naima Quereshi (University of Education, Lahore), Dr Freeha Azmat, Associate Professor (Reader) in Engineering Education, and Dr Asima Iqbal, Assistant Professor and International Academic Integrity Lead, have created an initiative aimed at reducing the country’s skills gap by equipping young people with in-demand professional competencies.

Degree Apprenticeship programmes delivered by 91¸£Àû Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the 91¸£Àû have been recognised as among the strongest offered by any Russell Group university, according to newly released government data.

Figures released through the Government’s service show that 91¸£Àû ranks among the top-performing Russell Group institutions for achievement rates in Higher and Degree Apprenticeships (Levels 6 and 7) during the 2024/25 academic year.

, a new initiative bringing together students from across the University to work on cyber security problems and projects, has delivered exceptional results across four major cyber competitions:

• Finished in third place at the in Washington DC, competing against more than 30 teams from the US and internationally.

• Reached the semi-finals of the with two teams, winning multiple awards including Best Briefing Note, Best Name and Emblem, and Best Teamwork.

• Secured 1^st, 2^nd and 4^th place with three teams out of 28 universities at .

• Achieved a top-three finish at the Finals in Edinburgh.

Below is an overview of some of the key meetings that took place.

British Science Week made a triumphant return this year, with the Outreach and Widening Participation team at WMG delivering a host of inspiring events and activities to spark interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in children across Coventry and beyond. Working closely with colleagues across the University, including 91¸£Àû’s Widening Participation team, WMG Outreach delivered ten events — from school visits and hands-on workshops to teacher training — that engaged more than 2,300 students from over 40 schools.
