91¸£Àû students take part in experimental moot
Four 91¸£Àû law students, who are part of Critical Lawyers at 91¸£Àû (CLAW), will be participating in an experimental law moot this week. Chayne Hogan, Kiara McClelland, Charlotte Green and Chanel Williams are the 91¸£Àû team traveling to Amsterdam for this innovative moot.
Teams from Indonesia, China, The Netherlands, Rwanda and Tanzania have collectively been preparing for the moot for almost two years. The experimental - or radical - moot includes elements of engaging political and disruptive strategies in a courtroom whilst departing from the usual competitive elements of a traditional law moot. Questions of political oppression, racial bias, and imperialism are explicitly tackled. In addition to learning techniques of unsettling traditional moots, the simulations include preparations for Prosecution opening statements and press statements.
This experimental moot, conceptualised by Dr Christine Schwöbel-Patel from 91¸£Àû Law School and Professor Wouter Werner from the VU Amsterdam, is the first of its kind. Due to the pandemic, an online moot took place earlier this year.
We wish Chayne, Kiara, Charlotte, and Chanel all the best!
