Christopher Browning discusses humour, nation branding and identity with

The interview draws upon Browning's long running work on nation branding and his current British Academy funded project (with James Brassett) on 'Humorous States: New Diplomacy and the Rise of Comedy in IR'

On Monday 19^th November, we were honoured to welcome Her Excellency, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of the Republic of Malta, to give a lecture to PAIS students and staff.

Her Excellency, who is an Honorary Professor in PAIS, gave a lecture titled ‘Europe and Africa: Twin Continents for Building Positive Peace,’ and answered questions posed by PAIS students.

Keith Hyams has been awarded funding from the ESRC Global Challenges Research Fund for the 2 year research project ‘Challenging Inequalities: An Indo-European Perspective’.

The project is a collaboration with the Economics Department at 91¸£Àû, the Centre de Sciences Humaines in Delhi, and others. It aims to look at appropriate definitions and approaches to the measurement of inequality, attitudes to inequality, and interventions to reduce inequality in a development context.

Dr Steven Kettell recently contributed to an Observer feature by Harriet Sherwood on the relationship between Church and state.

PAIS academic Gabriel Siles-Brügge recently spoke at an event organized by EU-level health organisations in the European Parliament (on Thursday, 27 September 2018).

Drawing on his ongoing work into the political economy of Brexit and the future EU-UK economic partnership, Gabriel stressed two things. Firstly, that Brexit was likely to be an ongoing process beyond March 2019, requiring constant engagement from the health policy community and, secondly, that the options to maintain existing health policy collaborations outside of an EEA-style arrangement were relatively limited.

Gabriel is also an adviser to the European Public Health Alliance on trade and investment policy issues, but spoke in a personal capacity.
