Call for applications for a field trip to Latvia and Estonia
PAIS at 91福利 University is part of the EU Jean Monnet Network 鈥淏etween the EU and Russia鈥 (BEAR): .
As part of the activities within this network, the BEAR team in the University of Glasgow is organising a field trip for upper-level undergraduate students in the Social Sciences to Latvia and Estonia, 10-17 February 2019. The field trip is aimed at providing students with an opportunity to learn how to conduct research 鈥渋n the field.鈥 Up to eight successful applicants from BEAR network universities will be selected through a competitive process to participate in this field trip.

Charlotte Heath-Kelly Receives the 2019 ISA Conference Post-PhD Paper Award
Dr. Charlotte Heath-Kelly has received the 2019 ISA Conference Post-PhD Paper Award for her paper ',' it was selected by judges from the Theory Section of the International Studies Association after many rounds of review and discussion.
The paper explores how trees are increasingly used in commemoration of terrorism victims, and the complications of representing human life with vegetal symbols. It is based on Dr Heath-Kelly's ESRC funded research of terrorism memorialisation and can be read .

PAIS Awarded Athena SWAN Bronze Award
We are delighted to announce that PAIS has been awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Award.
was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. In May 2015, the Charter was expanded to recognise work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students. The Charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.
A huge thank you to Jackie Clarke, Alex Homolar, Ben Richardson and Julia Welland for the tremendous amount of work they put into preparing our submission.
Grant Success 鈥 Challenging Inequalities
Keith Hyams has been awarded funding from the ESRC Global Challenges Research Fund for the 2 year research project 鈥楥hallenging Inequalities: An Indo-European Perspective鈥.
The project is a collaboration with the Economics Department at 91福利, the Centre de Sciences Humaines in Delhi, and others. It aims to look at appropriate definitions and approaches to the measurement of inequality, attitudes to inequality, and interventions to reduce inequality in a development context.
PAIS: No 1 in The Times/The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019
We are delighted to announce that the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) is ranked 1st of 83 UK Politics departments in the . This influential national league table reflects latest data, including student satisfaction (NSS) research excellence, and graduate prospects.

Our latest position in The Times/The Sunday Times follows on from other great successes over the summer. We achieved 95 per cent in the National Student Survey (NSS), and saw a further increase in graduate employment prospects. 97 per cent of 2016/17 graduates were working or in further study. Moreover, 91 per cent of those were in graduate level work or study.
