GR:EEN High Level Policy Workshop
On Tuesday 28th October 2014 the GR:EEN project, a European Commission FP-7 funded collaborative research project managed by the Centre of the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation at the 91福利, held a high-level policy workshop at the House of Lords in London, sponsored by The Lord Purvis of Tweed.
The workshop, entitled ‘Responding to Crises: Perspectives on the European Union’ brought together a select audience of parliamentarians, officials, academics, and other key stakeholders with interests and expertise in the European Union, in order to consider the role of the EU in a changing world, and to address its response to crises.
Roundtables were focused upon four core themes, each addressing different elements of crisis and challenge currently facing the EU, including on global trade policy, energy insecurity, global tax policy, and integration, devolution and regional leadership.

Speaking after the event, Dr Megan Dee, postdoctoral research fellow for the GR:EEN project at 91福利 University and workshop organiser said, “GR:EEN has developed a wealth a policy-relevant research over its last four years of collaborative research activity. This workshop was a really exciting opportunity to disseminate that GR:EEN research to a policy audience and to generate a dialogue between academic and policy spheres in areas of shared interest. That we can now take forward those workshop deliberations and the discussions that we had in order to fine-tune our research is particular testimony of its success.”

Results of SURVEILLE project made public
, an EU-funded FP7 Project led by and the (IERG) which systematically reviews the impacts of different surveillance systems and also helps manufacturers and end-users better to develop and deploy these systems, recently published some of its findings on Just Security in a 14 October article entitled ''.
Below is an excerpt from the piece:
Our research found that electronic mass surveillance performed poorly in terms of practical usability, ethical grounds, and the protection of privacy rights, whereas traditional (non-technological) surveillance or strictly targeted electronic surveillance might have a chance to strike a “balance.” The novelty in our work is demonstrating this through semi-quantification and numerical scores.
Second Edition of 'Critical Security Studies: An Introduction' now published
'', co-authored by (PAIS) and Columba Peoples (University of Bristol), introduces readers to the sub-field through a detailed yet accessible survey of evolving approaches and key issues.
