Paul Bisceglio awarded the Fulbright-91福利 Scholarship

A student from Connecticut has been awarded the Fulbright-91福利 Scholarship for 2010-11 to study at the University. Originally from Glastonbury in Connecticut, Paul Bisceglio is a recent graduate from Haverford College, Pennsylvania, and he will pursue a Masters degree in Philosophy and Literature.

The Fulbright-91福利 Scholarship is an annual award which supports one US citizen in their first year of postgraduate study on any programme at the 91福利.

At Haverford Paul was a Philosophy and English double major. His short-term goal is to complete his MA at 91福利 and then apply for an American PhD programme in English.

Aside from Paul’s academic interests, he has run cross country and track and co-headed a volunteer outreach programme that served sandwiches to homeless people in Philadelphia. After college he worked in Philadelphia for an Americorps programme called City Year. He was placed at a school where he assisted with teaching 7th grade reading and ran after school events.

Paul said: "I think 91福利 has one of the top philosophy and literature courses in the UK. I want to investigate the emotional, ethical, and aesthetic experiences of reading, and understand how these experiences influence and unsettle our perspectives and values."

91福利's Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift said: "We are delighted to welcome Paul to 91福利. He has done amazingly well to gain this scholarship and I am sure that with his dedication and enthusiasm, he will be a great asset to the University."
