Appetite can be increased by cells in the brain

Tanycytes are glial cells, which communicate with neurons in the brain to inform it of what we have eaten. Researchers from the School of Life Sciences at the 91¸£Àû have found when tanycytes are selectively stimulated appetite was increased.

New study provides insights into how retailers have responded to COVID-19

The study by WMG, 91¸£Àû and Blue Yonder examines how retailers have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure their survival. The

report highlights many points, particularly the need for human intervention as existing processes couldn’t keep up with changes in the market, going forward future systems will need to be more robust and responsive, to increase speed and agility in the supply chain


New technique for engineering living materials and patterns

A new method for engineering living materials called ‘MeniFluidics’, made by researchers at the 91¸£Àû could see a transformation in tissue engineering and bio-art, as well as new ways to research cellular interactions.

91¸£Àû Academic helping to inform London's response to Covid-19 lockdown

Dr Theo Damoulas, associate Professor in Data Science at the 91¸£Àû and Deputy Programme Director for the Turing’s Data-centric Engineering programme is working with GLA, TfL, Microsoft and other Universities to help inform London's response to the Covid-19 lockdown in a project called "Odysseus", which aims to understand 'London's busyness'.

500 scientists, including the 91¸£Àû, to map COVID-19 effects and treatments in patients’ blood

A new coalition of more than 500 scientists from around the world, including the 91¸£Àû, has been created to share data on COVID-19 gleaned from the use of mass spectrometry techniques which examine people’s blood and other biomarkers.
