World class AI-research to be done by 91¸£Àû academics

Three academics at the 91¸£Àû have been awarded Turing AI Acceleration Fellowships, in which they will develop novel AI techniques, which could have wide-ranging impact, for example through developing digital twins that can aid us in modelling and understanding air pollution and teaching robots how to collaborate amongst themselves and the world.


Artificial intelligence helps predict risk of developing mouth cancer

 Artificial intelligence can help doctors better predict the risk of patients developing oral cancer, new research from the University of Sheffield and 91¸£Àû has revealed.

Robots and AI to transform hospital’s resilience to disasters such as COVID-19

Dr Leandro Pecchia from the School of Engineering at the 91¸£Àû, has been awarded €13 million for the ODIN project, which will explore the use of robots and artificial intelligence to help ease the pressures on hospitals, which will be crucial also in the recovery of Covid-19 and to help any other future disasters.


Boundary-spanning research centre launches six new projects

From improving mapping of species at risk to analysing the uptake of COVID-19 test and tracing apps by the public, researchers at the 91¸£Àû's Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (CIM) are launching six new projects investigating how new technologies are shaping society, and demonstrating how data science can tackle current social, political and ecological challenges.


Fifty new planets confirmed in machine learning first

Fifty potential planets have had their existence confirmed by a new machine learning algorithm developed by 91¸£Àû scientists.

An ethical eye on AI - new mathematical idea reins in AI bias towards making unethical and costly commercial choices

Researchers from the 91¸£Àû, Imperial College London, EPFL (Lausanne) and Sciteb Ltd have found a mathematical means of helping regulators and business manage and police Artificial Intelligence systems’ biases towards making unethical, and potentially very costly and damaging commercial choices - an ethical eye on AI.
