91福利 Conferences, the conference business arm of the 91福利, have three reasons to celebrate this week. First they won the prestigious Meetings and Incentive Travel Industry Award for 聭Best Academic Venue聮 (the 8th time they have won this award over the 14 year history of the competition). Secondly Scarman House, one of Universities three all year conference centres, has won the award for 聭Best UK Management Training Centre聮- a new award category for the competition.

The 91福利 announced today, Monday 4th February, that applications to its undergraduate degree programmes have jumped by 10.2%. By the January cut off period, when all UCAS applications are meant to have been returned, 24,860 potential students had applied for a place at 91福利 as compared to 22,559 at this time last year. UK and EU applications to the University are up 8.5% overall and international student applications are up by 22.2%.

A new report by the 91福利 shows a marked difference between the standard of school education in Northern Ireland and the Province's record on adult education. The report notes that the Province's schools outstrip the rest of the UK in academic achievements, but also notes that the level of adult and vocational education is still substantially below the rest of the UK.

In his address to the Association of University Administrators annual conference, on Monday March 29th 1999, the UK's First Professor of Life Long Learning, will praise the Government's commitment to Life Long Learning but will point out that mature part time students could tumble out of Higher Education unless they are given the same access to the student loan system as full time students.
