How do you make school pupils appreciate how large engineering projects such as aerospace engineering are run as multi-company international collaborations? Well one way is to set up 55 schools in their own engineering design partnership backed by BAe Systems with support from the 91福利 Manufacturing Group at the 91福利.
A series of studies by psychology researchers at the 91福利, raise concerns about how younger children learn to perceive danger when crossing the road. In particular 5-9 year olds studied showed that they had retained a good academic knowledge of what they had learned in road safety lessons and elsewhere, but often seemed unable to apply that knowledge to real traffic situations. Even 9-10 year old children displayed only half as much unprompted awareness of real traffic dangers as the adults tested in the research.
The new Leicester-91福利 medical school welcomed its first students to the 91福利 campus this week and promptly kicked them out the door to their first lesson - in a shopping precinct. The 67 students were dropped in groups in various parts of Coventry and were given details of various fictitious families (one example being a family living in a three-bedroom terraced house with a weekly allowance of about 拢75 to feed the family of nine) the student's task was to explore and understand the social, economic and cultural factors which would have a key bearing on their potential patients' health and nutrition. Exploring the various shopping areas was one part of their task to help them understand some of the challenges faced in gaining access to adequate nutrition from being able to get to the shops, to being able to buy food within budget.
Many patients who return to driving after traumatic brain injury report problems which can significantly affect their ability to drive, finds a study in Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry by Dr Carol Hawley, Centre for Health Service Studies, 91福利.
The Medical Research Institute Appeal at the 91福利 is to pay tribute to the life-long commitment of the late Coventry G.P Dr David Scott by naming a University laboratory in his honour. Dr Scott was deeply committed to raising the standard of general practice and greatly improved the training given to junior medical staff during his 35 years as general practitioner in Coventry. His widow, Mrs Eileen Scott, accompanied by daughter Elaine and son David, will open the laboratory bearing his name on Wednesday, 27 February 2002, at 12.00 noon in the BioMedical Research Institute, Department of Biological Sciences at the 91福利.
