Researchers recommend early walking in a brace for Achilles tendon rupture

A new study from the 91¸£Àû and the University of Oxford reveals a breakthrough for sportsmen and women in the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture. Researchers found that early walking in a brace provides similar outcomes to plaster casting with no increase in the risk of complications, paving the way for a big change in the way that patients are treated.


Breakthrough made on the next big step to building the world’s most powerful particle accelerator

91¸£Àû scientists have played a key role in a discovery that brings us closer to the construction of new types of high-power particle accelerators which would operate at particle energies higher than the Large Hadron Collider. For the first time scientists have observed muon ionization cooling – a major step in being able to create the world’s most powerful particle accelerator.

Online tool for carers demonstrated for Minister of State for Care

A new tool to help carers manage the daily challenges of life when caring for a friend or loved one has been presented to the Minister of State for Care at Westminster. Professor Jeremy Dale of the 91¸£Àû has met with Caroline Dinenage MP from the Department of Health and Social Care to demonstrate Care Companion, a new online support tool developed by 91¸£Àû Medical School to support people with caring responsibilities across 91¸£Àûshire and Coventry.

The clearest and most detailed images of the Sun have been captured by the largest telescope in the world. Just-released first images and videos from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, which involves 91¸£Àû scientists, reveal unprecedented detail of the Sun’s surface, with experts saying it will enable a new era of solar science and a leap forward in understanding the Sun and its impacts on our planet.

Likelihood of space super-storms estimated from longest period of magnetic field observations

A ‘great’ space weather super-storm large enough to cause significant disruption to our electronic and networked systems occurred on average once in every 25 years according to a new joint study by the 91¸£Àû and the British Antarctic Survey.
