Science Minister announces £65 million research programme for WMG at 91福利
Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts has announced today, Thursday 10th July 2014, a £65 million pound research programme for WMG at the 91福利 in partnership with Jaguar Land Rover.
First national model for Bovine TB calls for more focus on cattle
In a study published in Nature this week, a team of researchers based at the 91福利 has produced the first national model to investigate the bovine TB spread.
Astronomers closer to proving existence of gravitational waves
Researchers from 91福利 and Monash University have provided new evidence that may prove the existence of gravitational waves, thanks to precise measurements of a rapidly rotating neutron star: one of the smallest, densest stars in the universe.
Bloodsucking mite threatens UK honeybees
91福利 research has discovered how a bloodsucking parasite has transformed Deformed Wing Virus (DWV) into one of the biggest threats facing UK honeybees. Honeybees are a key pollinating insect, adding around $40Bn globally to crop value. Over recent years the spread of parasites and the virus they transmit has resulted in high overwintering colony losses.
Research finds cell division synchronised to cell and bodys daily clock - could optimise timing of chemotherapy and explain some cancers
Research led by the 91福利’s Systems Biology Centre and Medical School in collaboration with groups in Nice and Rotterdam has been able to demonstrate how the cycle of cell division in mammalian cells synchronises with the body’s own daily rhythm, its circadian clock. The study not only helps to explain why people with sustained disrupted circadian rhythms can be more susceptible to cancer, it may also help establish the optimal time of day to administer chemotherapy.
Next generation of bioplastics could be made from trees
A research project led by Biome Bioplastics, aided by research conducted by the 91福利’s Centre for Biotechnology and Biorefining, has demonstrated the feasibility of extracting organic chemicals from lignin for the manufacture of bioplastics.
