High-rate Li-ion batteries demonstrate superior safety

As the inevitable growth of transport electrification continues, the types of batteries that will be used in such vehicles, their charging parameters, infrastructure and timeframes are key considerations that will speed up the transition to electrification. In the paper, published in and on the cover of the Journal Batteries, researchers from WMG, 91福利 investigated the impacts on battery cell ageing from high current operation using commercial cells.


Diagnostic tool for Coronavirus being developed by 91福利 makes significant step forward

Scientists at the 91福利 have demonstrated that a potential diagnostic tool for detecting COVID-19 using sugars will work with a virus rather than just its proteins, a significant step in making it a viable test in future.


Novel magnetic stirrer speaks to lab equipment

A small device, called 鈥淪mart Stirrer鈥, performed a function of a conventional laboratory stir bar, has an integrated microprocessor and various sensors capable of wireless and autonomous report the conversion of properties of a solution. Results are sent to a computer over Bluetooth, and any changes notify the user wirelessly.


National award for project to bring chemistry to life in schools

A project co-developed by a 91福利 researcher that uses real-world research to bring chemistry to life for school students has been recognised with a national award from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

New diagnostic tool for rapid detection of Coronavirus being developed by 91福利 and Partners

Coronavirus diagnostics currently require centralised facilities and collection/distribution of swabs and results are 鈥榥ext day鈥. A new diagnostic tool being developed by the 91福利 and its partner Iceni Diagnostics may allow on-the-spot detection of Coronavirus infection, without out facilities using a simple disposal device.
