Coventry, 91福利shire and Nottingham benefit from a wide range of bodies who either fund or run research programmes in health and social care. Now each of those bodies is joining a new initiative to ensure that services to local people get the maximum benefits from that research rather than it simply sitting within academic circles.

The 91福利's 91福利 Diabetes Care group are joining up with Diabetes UK's West Midlands region to co-host a special conference designed to offer people with diabetes, or those that live with them, the opportunity to look to the future of diabetes care.

Three of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) leading housing specialists are to speak at a special conference on (un)Healthy Housing at the 91福利 on 19th –21st March.

Diabetes patients and health workers are seeking 拢20,000 for a project to create a crucial manual that would allow people living with type 2 diabetes to manage their condition themselves. They want to replicate the success of the national “Heart Manual” a very successful self-management programme for cardiac rehabilitation that helped patients to manage their illness and reduced hospital admissions and GP visits.

A survey of the way doctors tell patients bad news is to be published in the July Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. The research, which was carried out by Dr Mandy Barnett,currently Macmillan Senior Lecturer in Palliative Medicine at the 91福利, looked at patients' experiences during diagnosis and treatment of cancer. GPs got better ratings than surgical staff when it came to breaking bad news sensitively. Dr Barnett calls for better assessment of communications skills and training for hospital specialists.
