‘The Viral Archive’ is a collaborative project between archaeologists at the 91¸£Àû, University College Cork (Ireland), and University College London, that is sending out a global invitation, for you to capture the visual record of the signs, marks, and graffiti that are keeping us safe, together, and uplifted during this pandemic.

As modern life-styles and high calorie diets drive the UK’s obesity levels up, researchers from the 91¸£Àû have found how cells respond to fasting and activate the process called autophagy, which means a healthier lifestyle can be promoted to help people maintain a healthy body weight.

An International group of researchers, including the 91¸£Àû, have developed a new process to harness multiple disease models for outbreak management, meaning public health agency can understand the merits of different management options in testing times such as these currently experienced with Covid-19.

A microbial community is a complex, dynamic system composed of hundreds of species and their interactions, they are found in oceans, soil, animal guts and plant roots. Each system feeds the Earth’s ecosystem and their own growth, as they each have their own metabolism that underpin biogeochemical cycles. Researchers from the School of Life Sciences at the 91¸£Àû have produced an extendable thermodynamic model for simulating the dynamics of microbial communities.

Four academics at the 91¸£Àû have been awarded a UKRI Future Leader Fellowship, providing world class research in topics ranging from stellar explosions, medieval medical texts for modern medicines, synthetic biology and climate –related financial risks.

A £1m grant from the Wellcome Trust has enabled researchers from the School of Life Sciences at the 91¸£Àû, to work with East African countries in their emergency preparations for COVID-19 as the pandemic spreads across Africa.
