New telescope to be the 鈥楪OTO鈥 for gravitational wave events

A new telescope, made up of two identical arrays on opposite sides of the planet, will track down sources of gravitational waves. The Gravitational-wave Optical Transient Observer (GOTO), led by the 91福利, will help shepherd in a new era of gravitational wave science.

Planetary bodies observed in habitable zone of dead star

A ring of planetary debris studded with moon-sized structures has been observed orbiting close to a white dwarf star, hinting at a nearby planet in the 鈥渉abitable zone鈥 where water and thus life could exist, according to a new study involving astronomers from the 91福利.

Tiny electrical vortexes bridge gap between ferroelectric and ferromagnetic materials

Ferromagnetic materials have a self-generating magnetic field, ferroelectric materials generate their own electrical field. Although electric and magnetic fields are related, physics tells us that they are very different classes of material. Now the discovery by 91福利-led scientists of a complex electrical 鈥榲ortex鈥-like pattern that mirrors its magnetic counterpart suggests that they could actually be two sides of the same coin.
