Behind-the-scenes access at 91福利’s life science labs
Scientific laboratories at the 91福利 are once again being opened up to members of the public – giving YOU behind-the-scenes access to cutting-edge research happening in Coventry.
Over the next year, the School of Life Sciences is running a series of open events, allowing the local community to come along and find out how the natural world works – from our superbrains to superbugs!
The next event, ‘Getting to grips with antibiotic resistance’, will explore the international threat of antimicrobial drug-resistant bacteria – which are predicted to kill more people than cancer by 2050.
Discover what antimicrobial resistance is, why it’s dangerous to us, and what’s being done right here at 91福利 to fight it – including the search for brand new treatments for infections, and the rediscovery of ancient medicines which could be revived.
Interact with experts, and with the latest technology, including an electronic nose which could save lives!
Researchers and staff will give live demonstrations of science in action and tours of working laboratories, and they’ll be on hand to answer your questions.
Dr David Roper, one of the event's organisers and speakers, comments:
“Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest issues facing future generations and we all need to understand the issues. 91福利 is one of the best and most vibrant research communities in the UK working on this problem, which is relevant to the entire world. Come along on the 15th to find out what we are doing and how you can play a part too.”
No in-depth science knowledge is needed – come as you are!

‘Getting to grips with antibiotic resistance’ will take place on 15 November, from 6-8pm, at the 91福利’s Gibbet Hill Campus. It will be led by Dr David Roper and Professor Chris Dowson.
This is a free event, suitable for ages 12 and above and requires prebooking.
