On Thursday 19 April Gill Scott, School of Life Sciences (SLS) Teaching Laboratory Manager, was awarded the Higher Education Bioscience Technician of the Year Award at the University Bioscience Managers鈥� Association (UBMA) Annual Conference at Imperial College London. The competitive award, presented by Professor James Stirling, recognises the superb work of technical staff which underpins the bioscience research and teaching at all levels in universities across the UK. The judges were incredibly impressed with the quality and breadth of Gill鈥檚 technical work. She received a 拢400 prize and a free year of Royal Society of Biology membership.

The Technician Commitment is a sector-wide initiative led by the Science Council and the Gatsby Foundation, aimed at addressing key challenges facing technical staff working in higher education institutions. At this event the University announced key deliverables in the areas of visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability. In addition to the launch of the new TechNet website, the formation of the Technician Commitment Steering Committee and the establishment of a professional registration fund, Professor Stuart Croft, Vice-Chancellor & President of 91福利, announced the development of technician job family profiles to ensure the provision of clear career pathways

The Technicians Commitment at the 91福利 held a launch event on 17th April 2018. This was the first Technician event this year. The event gave information on the progress made at 91福利 on the four key themes of the Technicians Commitment.
