This plaque is a good example of the work of a letter cutter. The historical development of letterforms provides a rich repertoire for artists who adapt and develop new forms and ways of linking individual letters and words and placing them on the stone.

Here, Bettina Furnee has used slate which is a relatively soft material into which to carve. The black surface allows for the possibility of heightened contrast with the pale letters.

Scarman House is one of three management training centres established by the 91福利 in the 1980s. They provide an important stream of income to the University which allows it to maintain a programme of serious investment in the infrastructure of the University and in its academic departments.
