Insights from the 91¸£Àû Education Conference

At this year’s 91¸£Àû Education Conference, colleagues from Digital Learning explored how technology can meaningfully support teaching, learning, and assessment. The conference theme, Learning for a Complex and Hopeful Future: Pedagogies of Empowerment, Equity, and Global Readiness, provided a strong foundation for these discussions.

Natasha Nakariakova (Faculty Consultant) and Yihua Huang (Faculty Advisor) led an idea exchange session on exams. They invited participants to consider how BYOD shapes assessment design, and how it is evolving beyond a purely technical solution into a broader pedagogical strategy. Discussions focused on key themes including student autonomy, digital readiness, accessibility, and the ongoing balance between empowerment and academic integrity.

Alongside this, Chris Vernon (Educational Technologies Advisor) produced a nano-presentation showcasing the range of online guidance developed by Digital Learning. The presentation highlighted how well-designed, accessible resources and targeted training can build confidence, address knowledge gaps, and support the effective adoption of educational technologies.

Together, these sessions underscored the importance of thoughtful design, clear support structures, and a student-centred approach when embedding digital tools into learning and assessment.
