Supporting Neurodivergent Staff and Students
Our Supporting Neurodivergent Staff & Students Guide (PDF) guide is designed to help all departments create more inclusive, flexible, and supportive environments. And if you're neurodivergent, you can share it to with your peers, manager, or team to help inform them about good practice in this area.
It offers practical tips for supporting neurodivergent staff and students on a range of areas such as accessible presentations, inclusive language, and supportive ways of working, and includes examples of adjustments that have helped neurodivergent staff at 91¸£Àû.
Sickness and Absence
Our Sickness and Absence (PDF) guide focuses on what 91¸£Àû's sickness policy says, and what it means, including how disability-related absence should be handled, return to work discussions, medical appointments, long-term absence, and capability reviews.
Alongside this the guide introduces the protections of the Equality Act, practical steps you can take to advocate for yourself if you think you are being treated unfairly in relation to sickness absence, and where else you can go for support.
Occupational Health
An Occupational Health referral can feel daunting, particularly if you don’t know what to expect. Our Occupational Health (PDF) guide aims to change that - because knowing the process in advance makes it much easier to navigate.
It explains what Occupational Health is, how the referral process works , what to expect at your appointment, the report you'll receive and what happens after. Alongside this, the guide outlines your rights are at each stage and gives advice on what to do if you experience any problems in the process.
Reasonable Adjustments
Reasonable adjustments are one of the most powerful protections available to neurodivergent staff - and one of the most misunderstood. People often do not ask because they do not know they can, do not know what to ask for, or have been made to feel that asking is a burden or an ‘unfair advantage’. It is neither. It is about levelling the playing field so you can do your job safely and effectively.
Our Reasonable Adjustments (PDF) guide explains what reasonable adjustments are, how to request them, what to do when they are agreed but not implemented, and how to protect yourself if someone tries to remove an adjustment that is already in place.
