 rs to develop international collaborations with the best research profes
 sors from around the world\, to work on some of the global challenges an
 d problems facing developing countries. Grants are worth up to £75\,000 
 per year for up to five years. The Royal Society\, under the Global Chal
 lenges Research Fund\, invites applications for its international collab
 oration awards for research professors. These enable outstanding UK rese
 arch leaders to develop international collaborations with the best resea
 rch professors from around the world\, to work on some of the global cha
 llenges and problems facing developing countries. The objectives of the 
 challenge awards are to: •support the best UK scientists in establishing
  sustainable collaborations with internationally leading scientists base
 d overseas\; •promote collaboration and sharing of knowledge through rec
 iprocal visits between the visiting research professors and their resear
 ch groups\; •support outstanding research through collaboration with the
  aim of addressing global challenges facing developing countries and ben
 efiting people in these countries\; •facilitate the development of multi
 disciplinary collaborations and approaches that could help address the c
 omplex research questions posed by global challenges\; •attract outstand
 ing international scientists and their teams to the UK's best universiti
 es and research institutions\; •strengthen UK science and open up new op
 portunities to exploit and translate research for economic benefit. Glob
 al challenge themes include: sustainable health and well-being\; sustain
 able resources\; sustainable growth\; sustainable local research and inn
 ovation capacity. UK applicants must hold a research professorship or eq
 uivalent position in a UK university or not-for-profit research institut
 ion. Overseas co-applicants must also hold a research professorship or e
 quivalent position in a university or not-for-profit research institutio
 n. Both applicants must hold salaried positions for the duration of the 
 award. Grants are worth up to £75\,000 per year for up to five years. Th
 ese cover activities directly relevant to supporting collaboration inclu
 ding: research expenses\, travel and subsistence for the visiting resear
 ch professors or members of their team\, salary for research assistance\
 , PhD studentships and small pieces of equipment of no more than £10\,00
