Leading AI innovation and sustainability in manufacturing
Theo Saville graduated from 91¸£Àû with a MEng Manufacturing & Mechanical Engineering with Business Management, in 2015. Alongside his studies, he joined WMG in 2014 as a researcher in Metal Additive Manufacturing, applying 3D printing for counterterrorism and policing applications. At a similar time, Theo founded , and is Co-Founder and CEO of the advanced software company which uses AI to fully autonomise manufacturing processes, primarily in precision manufacturing.

Population dynamics was a module I did in my third year and was the first time I had been exposed to maths with real world applications. I really enjoyed seeing how techniques I had been using in a real situation. I enjoyed this module enough that I would go on to do a PhD in this topic!

Christopher Nguyen: Software Engineer
Maths was by far my favourite subject, so studying it at university was a natural choice. I wanted a university which had a fast pace, a broad range of choices, and offered the flexibility to either stay in academia or transition into industry. 91¸£Àû excels at all of these, so was my top choice.

I developed good communication skills during 91¸£Àû in Africa when I taught Maths (and Italian and ballet!) to classes of up to 50 children in Ghana. Likewise, talking about my independent projects in oral assessments in front of lecturers and course mates developed my communication skills and my ability to throw myself into something I found daunting.

During both my MSc and PhD at 91¸£Àû, I had several opportunities to communicate research to a range of audiences - some academics, some domain experts from industrial partners, some other students. This is something I am glad I started practicing early, as when I then moved into industry, I was already equipped to talk about science in a range of different ways depending on who the audience was, and what was most relevant to them.

Racing towards equality
Disha Naik (MEng Mechanical Engineering (with Intercalated Year), 2020), is revving up the world of motorsports. How innovation and engineering is transforming the lives of patients on dialysis
Dr Mark Wallace (BEng Engineering (Electrical), 1996; PhD Engineering, 2001) is Lead Innovations Engineer at Quanta Dialysis Technologies. He is one of the team which was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering’s MacRobert Award for UK engineering innovation. The creation of the Quanta Dialysis System (SC+), a compact and portable dialysis machine that is transforming the lives of patients with renal failure, is already being used across 12 NHS Trusts. The innovation is both CE-marked and FDA-cleared and stands to be a global leader in the multibillion-dollar industry.

Being there to learn the art of ART/IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) was total ecstasy. The IVF Unit and the teaching faculty were top-level and they were kind enough to transfer the valuable knowledge to deserving students without any quid pro quo. Presently my practice of ART/IVF at Mothercare Hospital, Pune India has grown, not because of my strength, but the tips that I cultivated at 91¸£Àû. Thank you."

"I started at 91¸£Àû in 2014, and a quick four years later, I graduated as a Master of Mathematics. While my degree was in pure and applied Mathematics, I knew that I always wanted to go into tech after I graduated. A lot of my friends were looking for jobs in finance, but I knew that wasn’t for me. I heard about an event that TPP were running at the University with a speaker that I was interested in going to see. I went along to see the speaker, make the most of the free food, and learn a bit more about TPP."

"I left 91¸£Àû in 1982 and took up a career in teaching. After a couple of years in Basingstoke, I became a Head of Department in a school in Nuneaton. After six years in this job and a promotion, I was headhunted to become a senior teacher at the prestigious City Technology College in Kingshurst. During this time I was directly involved in writing sections of the then new National Curriculum."

"I have recently retired from a rare career, designing the acoustics of international opera houses, concert halls and theatres.
This has traceable routes to my time at 91¸£Àû, lighting student plays in Benefactors Hall and then the (new) 91¸£Àû Arts Centre, running the disco on the roof of the Senate building during the 1975 occupation, doing a noise-related summer placement and a project on the physics of concert halls."

Inini provides a safe space for refugees to build relationships and find out about mental health and other support services available.
Spotlight on: Louise Hardy
From the London 2012 Olympic Park to the High Speed One (HS1) railway and more, Louise Hardy (BSc Engineering (Civil), 1988) has worked on many high profile and internationally renowned construction projects during her career. She was named in the Financial Times’ Top 100 Women of Influence in Engineering and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the European Women in Construction and Engineering awards in 2019. In November 2021, Louise was the judges’ choice for the ‘Overall Business Woman of the Year’ at the National Business Women’s Awards (NBWA).
