Runs from Monday, July 18 to Wednesday, July 20. The Sun exhibits waves, oscillations, and instabilities on a wide range of timescales. Modern observations from space and ground-based instruments reveal these phenomena with unprecedented spatial, spectral, and temporal resolutions. Such observations have also driven rapid advancements in the theoretical modelling of key physical processes. These models are also increasingly being used to explain observations of oscillations or quasiperiodic pulsations associated with other stars. We aim to bring together experts in the solar and stellar communities, review recent advances in the field, and discuss ways to further advance our understanding of astrophysical plasma dynamics. |

The Volkswagen Foundation invites applications for its travel grants – Herrenhausen symposium. These support students and postdocs in attending the Herrenhausen symposium on engineering and life, from 19 to 21 October 2016 in Hanover, Germany. The conference will provide a forum for interdisciplinary exchange and exploration of synergies between researchers from life sciences as well as engineering sciences. Students and postdocs who actively participate in the conference by presenting a talk or poster may apply, if they have no other source of funding. The application is part of the abstract submission process. Grants are worth €300 for participants from Germany, €500 for participants from Europe and €1,000 for participants from outside of Europe. |
