How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

The British Council, through the Newton Fund and in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology of the Philippines, the Department of Higher Education and Training of South Africa and the Directorate of Resources for Research, Technology and Higher Education of Indonesia, invites applications for its researcher links travel grants. These enable early-career researchers to undertake an international research placement to strengthen links for future collaboration, build research capacity in developing economies, and enhance career opportunities. Research should have the potential to contribute to the economic development and social welfare of Indonesia, Philippines and South Africa, benefiting low income and vulnerable populations in these countries. Reference to any local or national consultation, links to government policies, and any links with government institutions and multidisciplinary projects are encouraged. The following challenge areas are prioritised:

•agriculture;

•climate and environment;

•sustainable energy;

•education research and innovation for development;

•economic growth;

•health;

•water and sanitation;

•food and nutrition;

•demographic change and migration;

•rural and urban development;

•infrastructure;

•humanitarian disasters and emergencies, disaster risk reduction;

•resilient and connected communities;

•governance, society and conflict;

•development-relevant data collection, quality and access.

Applicants may be of any nationality, but they must be based in the UK, Philippines, South Africa or Indonesia and be an employee affiliated with a recognised publicly funded research establishment or public or private HEI. They must be early-career researchers within 10 years of obtaining their PhD. Applicants having equivalent research experience equivalent and working in a field where a PhD is not a prerequisite may also apply. Applicants from under-represented groups are encouraged. Master-degree holders may apply for the Philippines call. SA applicants must be enrolled in the New Generation of Academics Programme or be PhD or postdoc researchers funded by the Teaching Development Grant or Research Development Grant at their universities. For-profit organisations cannot apply.

Grants are tenable for four to 24 weeks.

The British Council, under the Newton Fund, invites applications for its researcher links workshop grants for the UK, China and the Philippines. These provide financial support to bring together bilateral cohort of early career researchers from the UK, China and the Philippines to take part in workshops, in order to make international connections that can improve the quality of their research. All workshops will have the following three overarching objectives:

•support international development-relevant research;

•contribute to capacity building of early career researchers;

•establish new research links or significantly develop existing links, with the potential for longer term sustainability.

Proposals may be in any discipline or multidisciplinary, but the focus is on the following topics: agriculture, climate and environment, sustainable energy, education research for development, health, water and sanitation, food and nutrition, demographic change and migration, rural and urban development, infrastructure, humanitarian disasters and emergencies, resilient communities, governance, and development-relevant data and administration.

Each proposal must have one principal applicant from the UK and one from the partner country, who are leading or established researchers. UK PAs must be permanent employees of a UK HEI or a non-profit research organisation. Each proposal must also identify up to four leading researchers to act as mentors, two from each country. Workshop participants must be early-career researchers within 10 years of obtaining their PhD, or have similar experience, and be based in the UK or the partner country. Participants from for-profit organisations are not eligible to receive any funding. Workshops must take place in the partnering country and be held in English.

Funding covers travel, subsistence, event costs per day and additional workshop costs for up to 40 participants for a three- to five-day workshop.

The British Council invites applications for its researcher links workshop grants. These supports workshops organised to make international connections between the UK and Russia and bring together a cohort of early-career researchers to discuss overarching research objectives. Workshops may take place in either partner country and focus on any discipline or multidisciplinary area of natural science, social sciences or humanities. The aim is to establish new research links or significantly develop existing links, with the potential of longer term sustainability and to contribute to capacity building of early career researchers.

All proposals must include one principal applicant from the UK and Russia and have the support of the home and partner institution. Principal applicants must be leading or established researchers and be permanently employed at a HEI or a non-profit research organisation. Proposals may include for-profit organisations as participants. Workshops must last two or three days and take place between 1 June 2018 and 31 December 2018.

Five Russia-based workshops will be supported with grants worth up to £37,600 each and four UK-based workshops will be supported with grants up to £51,940 each. Funding may cover international travel, domestic travel, subsistence, event costs per day and additional workshop costs. Additional funding for Russia-based events is available from the Russian Foundation of Basic Research.

The British Council, via the Newton Fund, invites proposals for its institutional links grants. These aim to initiate and develop research and innovation collaborations between academic groups, departments and institutions in the UK and Russia. The objective is also to encourage these collaborations to work with non-academic organisations and individuals to support the exchange of research and innovation expertise and the translation of research knowledge into tangible benefits.

Proposals must fulfil the following criteria:

•have one principal applicant from the UK and one PA from Russia;

•both PAs must be leading or established researchers;

•PAs must be permanent employees of either non-profit HEIs with the capacity to undertake high-quality research, any UK HEI or a catapult centre in the case of the UK PA;

•both of the PAs lead institutions must have the capacity to

administer the grant;

•organisations affiliated to higher education institutions in the UK or any other country and based in Russia may apply as the lead institution in Russia provided that other eligible HEIs or research organisations are also involved as associated partners in-country.

PAs are encouraged to include associated partners affiliated with other research or HEIs, technology transfer offices, non-profit organisations, for-profit or commercial organisations. Non-profit HEIs or publicly-funded research organisations are eligible to apply as lead institutions.

For-profit organisations and non-profit organisations can participate in but are usually not eligible to apply for grants. Furthermore, for-profit organisations are not eligible to receive any grant funds except to cover travel-associated costs.
