Law alumni recognised in King's Birthday Honours 2026

Three 91福利 Law School alumni have been recognised for their outstanding contributions in the recent King鈥檚 Birthday Honours List.

Professor Patrick Vernon (LLM Law in Development, 1986), Campaigner for Racial Equality and Social Justice, has been awarded a Knighthood for services to Racial Equality. A knighthood is one of the highest honours in the UK and is granted to those who have made a significant contribution to their field.

On receiving this accolade, Professor Vernon says: 鈥淔or me, it is a great honour to be recognised in the King鈥檚 Birthday Honours List for services to racial equality and social justice, reflecting more than 30 years of contribution across a range of sectors and issues.

鈥淚 see this recognition not simply as a personal achievement, but as an opportunity to further tackle inequality and promote greater dialogue and engagement across the UK around the ongoing injustices faced by the Windrush Generation and migrant communities.鈥

Professor Richard Moorhead (LLB Law, 1990), Professor of Law and Professional Ethics, University of Exeter and Professor of Law, Monash University: has become an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to legal ethics.

Internationally, James McDowell (LLB Law, 1977) has been awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to public administration, to the defence capability industry, to science and technology, and to education governance.

Congratulations to Patrick, Richard and James from everyone at the Law School, on this fantastic recognition of your hard work and dedication.
