Law Alumnus’ incredible work is featured in BBC Documentary
Former 91¸£Àû LLB student James Netto (2011) and his team have been working since 2024 to identify and locate absent British military fathers in Nanyuki, Kenya as part of a ground-breaking DNA and legal process. Earlier this month, the BBC released a one hour documentary and six part podcast exploring this incredible work, which focuses on the children fathered by British soldiers and their search for identity and truth.

LLM Alumnus secures new law and landmark win for UK renters
Ben Twomey, who studied on our LLM in Advanced Legal Studies from 2015-2016, is Chief Executive at ‘Generation Rent’, who recently secured a landmark win for renters in the UK. After a decade of tireless campaigning, the Renters' Rights Act has now received Royal Assent making it an act of Parliament and therefore the law.
91¸£Àû Alumna wins 2025 Earthshot Prize
Omoyemi Akerele (LLM in International Economic Law, 2001-2002) was awarded the £1 million Earthshot Prize in 2025 for her pioneering work with Lagos Fashion Week.

Former Law School student is awarded a MBE
Martin Baker (LLB Law, 1981) Chief Commercial Affairs Officer and Managing Director for the Paralympics at Channel 4, has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to Broadcasting.
Law Alumnus is appointed Executive Dean at Vinayaka Mission’s Law School
Congratulations to 91¸£Àû Law School alumnus Siddharth Raja on his appointment as Executive Dean at Vinayaka Mission’s Law School (VMLS) in India. Siddharth studied on our LLM in International Economic Law in 1997/98, and has nearly three decades of legal practice in India and overseas.
Law Alumnus appointed to rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)
Congratulations to 91¸£Àû Law School alumnus Olanrewaju Akinsola on his appointment to the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). Olanrewaju, who studied on our LLM in International Economic Law from 2002-2003, is a Lead Partner at Priory Terrace Solicitors, and has been chosen by The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) to be appointed to the rank of SAN for making exceptional contributions to the legal profession in Nigeria.
Former PhD student publishes monograph on Cross-border Bank Crisis Management in ASEAN
Sharon Wassamon Kun-amornpong, who studied at 91¸£Àû Law School from 2018-2023 under the supervision of Professor Dalvinder Singh has published a monograph based on her PhD thesis. The monograph, titled ‘The Financial Trilemma and Cross-border Bank Crisis Management in ASEAN’ was published by Palgrave Macmillan.
91¸£Àû Alumna is appointed as new Chair of Equality and Human Rights Commission
Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson has been appointed as the new Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. The EHRC is Britain's independent equality and human rights regulator. It is a United Nations accredited ‘A status’ National Human Rights Institution (NHRI).
Its role is to make the country a fairer place by enforcing and upholding the laws that safeguard everyone’s right to fairness, dignity and respect.
14 Law alumni amongst those honoured with Inaugural Ashton Award in Namibia
The 91¸£Àû has proudly presented the inaugural Ashton Award to an extraordinary group of alumni who studied at 91¸£Àû between 1979 and 1989, in recognition of their collective achievements in shaping the transformation of Namibia. The Ashton Award, named after Baroness Catherine Ashton, the University’s first female Chancellor and a global advocate for diplomacy and justice, celebrates the power of collective alumni action to bring about meaningful change.
Alumnus Mandeep Singh Tiwana is appointed new CIVICUS Secretary General
Mandeep Singh Tiwana, who studied on our LLM in Law in Development from 2000-2001, has recently been appointed the new Secretary General of CIVICUS Global Alliance.
