In mid-May, Professor Christine Schwöbel-Patel was a visiting researcher at the Stefansson Arctic Institute at the University of Akureyri, Iceland. She was there on the invitation of the Nansen Professor of Polar Studies, Dr Romain Chouffart. The visit was to enable a collaboration between Professor Schwöbel-Patel and Dr Chouffart on Arctic governance and new modes of sovereignty through infrastructure.

In Verfassungsblog’s latest weekly editorial dedicated to Taiwan, Dr Ming-Sung Kuo addressed issues concerning the Trump presidency’s implications to Taiwan and Taiwan’s constitutional court crisis in the wake of the Trump-Xi meetings in Beijing as part of the blog’s ‘Five Questions to …’ interview series.

91¸£Àû Law School’s Centre for Global Health Law is delighted to announce the appointment of Angela Daly as a visiting Professor. She is collaborating with our Centre for Global Health Law as a COI on the Advancing health data justice: A comparative study of health-related data governance in Canada, Germany and the UK project (ADIJUST). Her appointment at 91¸£Àû Law School will enrich our research community and deepen our engagement with some of the defining legal challenges of our time.

Sergeant Jonathan Benjamin of West Midlands Police has been awarded a 91¸£Àû Policy Hub Fellowship. He has been working with Professor Jackie Hodgson (Law), Dr Rachel Lewis (Sociology) and Dr Ruth Bernatek (Law) on their research and impact work using innovative arts-led approaches to challenge racist attitudes and behaviours within the police. As an in-residence Policy Fellow, Jonathan will be able to further this engagement, including with the Centre for Operational Police Research, COPR.

To celebrate International Workers’ Day (May Day) we have organised an online exhibition to showcase some of the policy briefs realised by students of Labour Law in Context (LA3A6) over the years. These group policy briefs are part of the assessment for the module and aim to encourage students to engage with current labour law debates and learn about policy writing as a tool for legal change. For students this is also an opportunity to value the importance of teamwork, negotiate positions, and work towards a common goal.

91¸£Àû Law School's Centre for Global Health Law is proud to be part of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the 91¸£Àû and the World Health Organization (WHO), formalising collaboration to strengthen gender, human rights, and equity in digital health governance. The partnership reflects 91¸£Àû Law School's founding commitment to studying law in its social and political context, and its long tradition of placing human rights and social justice at the heart of legal scholarship.

91¸£Àû Law School colleagues Professor Henrique Carvalho and Dr Ruth Bernatek have been awarded a 91¸£Àû Research Celebration Award, in the ‘Collaboration & Partnerships’ category.

Professor Ann Stewart and Professor Emily Henderson (Education Studies) were invited to present their research on gender and equitable access to Higher Education in India at the launch of the 91¸£Àû India Network (WIN) on Monday 16 March, as part of One World 91¸£Àû.

In recognition of their contribution to excellence, Professor Jane Bryan, Dr Rajnaara Choudhury Akhtar and Dr Charlotte Woodhead have been nominated for a 91¸£Àû 2026 Research Celebration Award.

We are delighted to share that Dr Laura Lammasniemi has been selected as a George Flannery Visiting Fellow at the University of Sydney Law School. These highly competitive fellowships are awarded each year to international researchers who will contribute to the School’s research environment.

Mara Malagodi’s co-edited book Asian Comparative Constitutional Law Vol. 3 - Constitutional Structures has been nominated for the 2025 Book of the Year Prize by the International Forum on the Future of Constitutionalism.

Dr Serena Natile receives the IAS Interdisciplinary Research Development Award for the project ‘Pluralising Law and Social Reproduction: Concepts, Methods, Practices’. The IRDA scheme offers up to £5000 to support the development of new interdisciplinary research ideas and collaborations at 91¸£Àû.
