Legislation drafted by Dr Stephen Connelly and Professor Celine Tan from 91¸£Àû Law School with Dr Karina Patricio Ferreira Lima from University of Leeds School of Law to deal with the sovereign debt crisis in developing countries has been scheduled for debate in the UK Parliament.
WLS PhD students teach staff about Chinese language and culture
On 4 December, 91¸£Àû Law School held its first Chinese language and culture workshop. Led by seven of our current PhD students, the aim of the workshop was to improve intercultural communication, learn a little Chinese and understand how to improve our Chinese students' learning experiences.
Say My Name Project collaborates with Premier League football team
91¸£Àû Law School’s Professor Jane Bryan, creator of the ‘Say My Name’ project here at 91¸£Àû, has collaborated with Brentford FC to create their own name campaign as part of the Premier League’s No Room for Racism week held during Black History Month.
91¸£Àû Law School’s Associate Professor Serena Natile has been a Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University College of Law since October this year. As she nears the end of her fellowship, she discusses her experience at the College, her current research and what is next for her.
The paper on Corporate Governance for Sustainability, coauthored by Professor Andrew Johnston of 91¸£Àû Law School and the Cambridge Centre for Business Research, was originally published in 2020, but has recently entered the SSRN all-time top 10 lists for Climate Change Law and Policy, and Sustainability Law and Policy. The Statement has had a major impact on the debate over the future of corporate governance.
Successful ‘Conversations and Coffee’ project returns for its second year
Following its success last year, the Conversation and Coffee project returns for a second year and is looking for new volunteers. The collaborative venture seeks to create an informal space where student volunteers and local community members can come together over free coffee and cake, to practise and improve English speaking, build connections, and foster intercultural awareness.
Professor Shaheen Ali awarded Honorary Doctorate
91¸£Àû Law School’s Professor Shaheen Ali has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) from the University of Oslo which she received during a graduation ceremony held at the University on 2 September this year.
School Tasking shortlisted for Times Higher Education (THE) Award
The 91¸£Àû has been named a finalist for a prestigious award. Dr Ali Struthers’ School Tasking scheme has been shortlisted for ‘Widening Participation or Outreach Initiative of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards.
Professor Ana Aliverti elected to the Academy of Social Sciences
Congratulations to 91¸£Àû Law School’s Professor Ana Aliverti, who has recently been appointed as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
The Academy’s Fellowship welcomes 45 new leading social scientists this autumn. All elected for their excellence in their fields and substantial contributions to social science for public interest.
