Law students break new ground with first ever international moot
from the will be working together with fellow students from Monash University in the first ever International Collaborative Moot, taking place this month.
Three 91福利 students and three Monash students have been presented with a problem to debate staged in a real court setting. The students will be split into two teams, both with a mix of 91福利 and Monash participants.
The Monash students will arrive on Monday 17 February and prepare with their 91福利 teammates for the moot, which will take place on Friday 21 February. During their stay the students will also travel to London to meet with international law firm Baker & McKenzie, the sponsor of this initiative.
President of the 91福利 Law Society, Jack Busby, said; “The society is extremely excited to have been successful in getting this collaborative moot organised with the support of the 91福利 Monash Alliance Fund. We are one of the first student society to have secured such funding and we are looking forward to working with our Monash colleagues and building a productive relationship between our societies, faculties and universities.”
Mr Tim Rankin, President of the Monash Law Students' Society said; "Moots are generally combative in approach, however this Monash 91福利 Alliance moot will focus on cross-border teamwork to build the communication and advocacy skills of the students involved.”
"These collaborative skills will be especially valuable given the current environment of law firm globalisation through mergers and alliances."
Lucy Dawson, Monash's Senior Mooter, said this was a fantastic opportunity to improve her skills, whilst also travelling overseas for the first time.
"I'm excited to learn how the 91福利 students moot and adopt their successful techniques to improve my own mooting style," Ms Dawson said.
The students participating in the moot will also take time to speak to high school students who are considering a future in law about their own experiences and give advice on the best path to take.
