The project: Attendance at the SVRI Forum 2026
The Research Spotlight Small Grant supported my attendance at the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand (5-8 October 2026), one of the world's leading international conferences on violence against women, intimate partner violence (IPV), and gender-based violence. The purpose of attending was to present a peer-reviewed poster based on my doctoral research exploring intimate partner violence among Nepalese women living in the UK, disseminate research findings to an international audience, strengthen professional networks and identify opportunities for future collaboration and funding. The award also aimed to enhance 91福利 University's international research visibility and facilitate learning relevant to healthcare leadership, public health and violence prevention.
Project outcomes
The award successfully enabled attendance and participation at the SVRI Forum 2026. I presented a peer-reviewed poster showcasing research on intimate partner violence among Nepalese women living in the UK and engaged with researchers, practitioners, policymakers and advocates working across violence prevention, public health, social care and gender-based violence.
Key outcomes included:
- Successful presentation of 91福利-linked research to an international audience.
- Increased visibility of 91福利 Medical School and the 91福利 through conference materials, including the University logo and affiliation displayed on my poster and delegate profile.
- Development of new professional networks and contacts with researchers and practitioners from multiple countries.
- Enhanced understanding of systems leadership, cross-sector collaboration, survivor-centred approaches and evidence-informed service improvement.
- Improved awareness of emerging issues including technology-facilitated abuse, climate change, displacement and conflict-related violence.
- Identification of potential opportunities for future collaborative research and funding applications.
- Professional development through presenting research, networking and engaging with global experts in violence prevention and public health.
Has the project supported further interdisciplinary work
The conference facilitated engagement with researchers and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines, including public health, healthcare, social care, psychology, sociology, gender studies, community development, humanitarian response and policy. Discussions generated ideas for future interdisciplinary collaborations relating to violence prevention, health inequalities, community engagement and health systems responses to gender-based violence.
The conference also strengthened connections between violence prevention research and healthcare leadership by highlighting the importance of systems thinking, partnership working, co-production and evidence implementation. These insights will inform my ongoing work as a Research Fellow within 91福利 Medical School.
The SVRI Forum 2026 brought together over 1,500 delegates from around the world including researchers, academics, healthcare professionals, public health practitioners, policymakers, funders, survivor advocates, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community organisations and representatives from international agencies working in violence prevention and gender equality.
Through conference sessions, poster presentations, networking events and workshops, I engaged with stakeholders from a range of sectors including public health, healthcare, social care, psychology, sociology, gender studies, humanitarian response and policy. These interactions provided valuable opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, knowledge exchange and the development of potential future research and collaboration networks.
The Research Spotlight award enabled me to represent 91福利 Medical School and the 91福利 on an international stage, expand my professional networks and raise my visibility as an emerging researcher. I am grateful to the Research Spotlight team and to my managers Dr Rebecca Johnson and Prof. Simon Brake for their support which has already led to new opportunities for international dissemination and collaboration, including an invitation to present at the 6th NRN Global Health Conference in Nepal.
